The Pioneer DV-400V is one of the most thoroughly equipped DVD upscaling players available on the market. The goal of upscaling players is to allow reproduction of standard definition content on high resolution/high-definition displays at the native resolution of the display. Apart for being able to upscale content up to full HD 1080p resolution the DV-400V is also able of scaling up to other formats such as 576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i to correspond with various displays. The DV-400V comes in silver and has a standard Pioneer design with excellent robust build quality. Both remote control and control interface are well designed making this an easy to operate device. Connectivity wise there's and HDMI connector intended for HD output, component output, RGB supported SCART and a Coax digital audio output. Apart for being able to upscale and display standard DVDs of all formats the DV-400V also plays DivX, MP3, WMA, WMV, JPEG and even MPEG4 AAC files. It also has a USB port on the front, which lets you play audio files and view JPEGs from USB devices. The DV-400V provides excellent upscaling results to all resolutions even at the maximal 1080p resolution. The decoding of MPEG and DivX content also works perfectly but there are some issues with the playback of WMV video files which occasionally play as sound only and are also limited to a maximal resolution of 576p. Despite minor setback the output quality is very good making this an excellent upscaling DVD player.
