With the first Zune model we recommended waiting for the next version, and by no means can we be disappointed. Microsoft's 2nd Generation 80GB Zune is simply a terrific digital media player, and establishes itself as a worthy rival to the new iPod Classic (perhaps even more than worthy).
First of all, it's thinner and lighter than its older brother, which felt more like an unsophisticated brick than an MP3 player. With the first Zune model we recommended waiting for the next version, and by no means can we be disappointed. Microsoft's 2nd Generation 80GB Zune is simply a terrific digital media player, and establishes itself as a worthy rival to the new iPod Classic (perhaps even more than worthy).

The new Zune has a long list of features and goodies in its package. The WiFi antennae is still there, but with far more advanced capabilities. The Zune can now sync itself into a wireless network and update its podcasts and music, all by itself. The podcasts are now in a separate category and very well-organized, and the PC Zune software has been upgraded extensively, with better graphics and options.
Other features include advanced sound-insulating headphones, a built-in composite video output, FM radio, a new easy-to-use navigation control and extensive video and audio format support. Sound performance is very good, even though Microsoft had to get rid of the equalizer in favor of longer battery life.
